       Dell EMC (until 2016, EMC Corporation) is an American multinational corporation headquartered in Hopkinton, Massachusetts and Round Rock, Texas, U.S.

       The company sells data storage, information security, virtualization, analytics, cloud computing and other products and services that enable organizations to store, manage, protect, and analyze data.


    EMC was founded in 1979 by Richard Egan & Roger Marino (the E & M in EMC) and introduced its first 64-kilobyte memory boards for the Prime Computer in 1981.

    In the mid-1980s, the company expanded beyond memory to other computer data storage types and networked storage platforms.

    On January 9, 2004, EMC Corp. acquired VMware.

    On October 12, 2015, Dell Inc. announced its intent to acquire EMC Corp. This acquisition would combine Dell’s enterprise server, personal computer, and mobile businesses with EMC’s enterprise storage business in a significant Vertical merger of IT giants.

    On September 7, 2016, Dell Inc. completed the merger with EMC Corp. (which later became Dell EMC).

    EMC Corp. owned around 80% of the stock of VMware, and after the merger VMware was maintained as a separate company, held via a new tracking stock, while the rest of EMC were rolled into Dell.

    After the merger, Dell was re-organized with a new parent company, Dell Technologies; Dell’s consumer and workstation businesses are internally referred to as the Dell Client Solutions Group (CSG), being is one of the company’s main business divisions alongside Dell EMC and VMware.

    Pre-Dell EMC acquired Iomega in 2008; EMC formed a partnership with Lenovo in 2013, named LenovoEMC.
