Classroom numbers are far less contested: 95% of UK undergraduates use generative AI, 88% of students worldwide do, and 18% of US teachers have a written policy telling them how. How Big Is The AI In Education Market In 2026?
Four firms publish a current AI in education market estimate. Their 2025 base values sit between $6.4 billion and $8.3 billion. Their forecasts do not converge at all.
Each figure measures vendor revenue under that firm’s own scope definition, and the scopes differ. Grand View Research and Precedence Research both include corporate training; the forecast horizons run from 2030 to 2035. The values below are not directly comparable to each other.

Precedence Research puts 2026 at $9.58 billion; Grand View Research puts it at $11.4 billion. The 2035 projection of $136.79 billion carries a nine-year compounding assumption, which is why it dwarfs the 2030 numbers rather than contradicting them. Against the wider artificial intelligence market, AI in education stays a rounding error, and it sits inside a far larger e-learning industry.
On segments the firms agree more closely. Solutions took 70% of revenue in 2025 per Grand View Research and over 72% per Precedence Research. North America held 38% in 2025. Higher education was the largest end use for both; corporate training was the fastest-growing.
AI In Education Statistics For Teachers
Gallup and the Walton Family Foundation measured US teacher adoption in a web survey of 2,232 public K-12 teachers fielded 18 March to 11 April 2025. Six in 10 used AI for their work. Three in 10 used it at least weekly, and those weekly users reported saving 5.9 hours a week.
The follow-up round, fielded 9 February to 2 March 2026 with 2,069 teachers, measured guidance rather than usage. Only 18% receive formal written policy on how AI should be used. Another 48% get informal guidance only. A third get nothing.
Which Tasks Have No AI Guidance At All?
Gallup asked about 10 work tasks separately. Formal guidance stayed below 10% on every one. The gaps are widest on tasks involving direct contact with students.

Where guidance exists it mostly stays neutral. Among teachers who receive any guidance on grading with AI, 54% say it neither encourages nor discourages the practice, 36% say it encourages, and 10% say it discourages, the highest discouragement reading of any task measured.
How Many Students Use AI For Schoolwork?
HEPI has run the same survey of UK full-time undergraduates three years running, most recently by Savanta in December 2025 with 1,054 respondents. Any use of AI moved from 66% to 92% to 95%. Institutional supply moved too, from 9% of students saying their provider gives them AI tools to 38%.
The line worth watching is the third one. Students pasting AI-generated text straight into assessed work went 3%, 8%, 12%.

In the 2026 edition, 94% say they use generative AI to help with assessed work and 65% say assessment has changed significantly in response. Almost half, 49%, say AI improved their student experience. Only 36% feel encouraged by their institution to use it.
What Do US Teens Use Chatbots For?
Pew Research Center surveyed US teens aged 13 to 17 between 25 September and 9 October 2025 and published in February 2026. Chatbot use reached 64%. The uses below are a multi-select question, so they overlap and do not sum to 100%.
Depth of use is thinner than the headline. One in 10 teens do all or most of their schoolwork with chatbot help, 21% do some, 23% do a little, and 45% have not used them this way. Separately, 59% think using AI to cheat is a regular occurrence at their school.
Are Instructors Equipped To Guide AI Use?
The Digital Education Council collected 45,398 responses across 35 countries, 27,284 from students and 18,114 from faculty, publishing in July 2026. Student AI use reached 88% and faculty use 77%.
Support has not tracked adoption. Only 29% of students believe their instructors are well equipped to guide them on AI, falling to 17% in the US and Canada. 57% say their assessments come with inadequate AI guidance. Faculty intent to keep using AI in US and Canadian institutions fell nine points, from 76% in 2025 to 67% in 2026, the lowest of any region tracked.
AI In Education Funding Statistics
Global edtech venture funding reached $2.6 billion in 2025, roughly 11% above 2024, according to HolonIQ. Early-stage rounds made up about 87% of deal volume. Workforce training led on deal count.
The first quarter of 2026 broke the pattern. Funding came in at $512 million across 63 deals, down 24% in value and 10% in volume against Q1 2025. Preply’s $150 million round in January was the largest of the quarter, and North America took 62% of funding largely because of it.

One deal outweighed the quarter. Coursera and Udemy announced an all-stock merger on 17 December 2025 with an implied combined equity value of about $2.5 billion and pro forma annual revenue above $1.5 billion. Stockholders approved on 9 April 2026 and the transaction completed on 11 May 2026, creating a company with 290 million learners, 18,000 enterprise customers and a stated target of $115 million in annual run-rate cost synergies within 24 months. AI In Education Revenue: Duolingo Against Chegg
Two listed learning companies moved in opposite directions in 2025, and both attribute the move to AI. Duolingo added $289.6 million of revenue. Chegg lost $240.7 million.

Duolingo closed Q4 2025 with 52.7 million daily active users, up 30% year over year, 133.1 million monthly active users and 12.2 million paid subscribers. Total bookings reached $1,158.4 million. The company guides to 15% to 18% revenue growth in 2026 and expects DAU growth to slow to about 20%.
Chegg’s quarterly revenue fell every quarter of 2025. Its Skilling unit was the one line that held.
Chegg Skilling delivered $17.7 million in Q4 2025, up 11% year over year, against $54.9 million from Academic Services. Management says changes in search interfaces continue to hit traffic, and is cutting total non-GAAP expenses to under $250 million in 2026, a 53% decline from 2024. Distribution advantage now sits with the platform vendors named in these AI market share figures, alongside legacy publishers such as Pearson.
