   Koninklijke Ahold Delhaize N.V., known as Ahold Delhaize, is a food retail group headquartered in Zaandam, Netherlands.

HISTORY


   Ahold Delhaize was formed in 2016 from the merger of Ahold and Delhaize Group. Ahold‘s origins date back to 1887 when Albert Heijn and his wife opened a small grocery store in Oostzaan, Netherlands. Delhaize Group traces its roots back to 1867 when the Delhaize brothers opened a wholesale grocery business in Charleroi, Belgium, and chose the lion as their logo.

   In 1952, the Delhaize brothers and Albert Heijn pioneered the use of their own branded products and introduced the concept of the self-service store supermarket.

   In 2023, Ahold Delhaize announced the acquisition of Romanian retailer Profi from MidEuropa Partners.
