The Companies Behind a 25-Year-Old Online Casino Network

Most online casino brands come and go within a few years. Casino Rewards is an odd exception. The network has run since around the turn of the millennium. Its oldest sites still trade under their original names. Yet few players could say who actually owns it.

This piece traces how the group started and which companies sit behind it today. It also looks at where its licences come from and what its long run says about the model.

How Casino Rewards Started?

Casino Rewards grew out of the first online casino boom. Industry profiles date its launch to 2000, although a few player reviews put it a year earlier, in 1999. Captain Cooks and Blackjack Ballroom were among the earliest brands. Luxury and Zodiac came soon after.

Each site had its own theme and name. Behind the scenes, they shared one back office, one games supplier and one customer database. That shared base turned out to be the whole strategy.

The Loyalty Idea That Held It Together

The group’s real product was never a single casino. It was a loyalty scheme that worked across all of them. A player who joined one brand kept the same account, points and VIP status at every sister site. Today that scheme runs across six tiers.

Low entry costs did the rest, with some welcome offers starting from a single dollar. Cheap entry plus shared loyalty kept players inside the family.

Who Owns Casino Rewards Today?

Casino Rewards is not a listed company, so it publishes no annual report. What can be pieced together comes from licence records and the brands’ own terms and conditions. Those documents point to two main corporate entities:

Apollo Entertainment Limited, a Malta-registered company that industry profiles name as the group’s corporate manager.

Fresh Horizons Limited, registered in the British Virgin Islands, which holds the licence for many of the brands.

Apollo Entertainment also runs the Ontario versions of several sites under that province’s own regime. The people behind both companies are not named in public filings.

Database profiles list the business as privately held with no outside funding rounds. In short, it is a closely held operation that has never needed a stock market or a buyer.

Licensing Across Different Markets

Most of the older brands are licensed in Kahnawà:ke, a Mohawk territory just outside Montreal. Its regulator was set up in 1996, and the Kahnawà:ke Gaming Commission’s interactive gaming rules followed in July 1999.

Sites under those permits must be hosted at a local data centre, Mohawk Internet Technologies. Newer brands took a different route. Cosmo Casino, launched in 2017, holds a Malta Gaming Authority licence instead.

Software and the Mega Moolah Factor

From the start, the group built its catalogue around Microgaming, a pioneer of online casino software. That supplier’s content now sits under Games Global. The tie gave every Casino Rewards site access to Mega Moolah, the progressive jackpot pokie behind many seven-figure wins.

Welcome deals reflect that link, and many of the spins offered by Casino Rewards sites land on Mega Moolah. Live tables from Evolution and slots from other studios arrived later. Microgaming titles still fill most lobbies.

Why the Structure Matters Now?

For two decades, one offshore licence could cover dozens of countries. That era is ending. New Zealand’s Online Casino Gambling Act 2026 caps the market at 15 licences, with the first expected in early 2027.

The Department of Internal Affairs guidance for players explains which sites may keep serving Kiwis during the switch. Ontario took a similar path earlier. Each new regime forces groups like this one to apply market by market.

The timetable is tight. On 13 October 2026 the department named 11 companies that won the right to apply. It has not yet said which casino brands will trade under those licences.

Operators without an application must stop offering online casino games in New Zealand by 1 December 2026. For a network built on many brands, that is a real test of the old model.

A Quiet Survivor

Casino Rewards has outlasted most of its early rivals without ever going public or selling up. Its formula was simple: many brands, one account and a reason to stay. Whether that formula survives country-by-country licensing is the next chapter.

Online casino play should stay entertainment.
