       Coterra Energy Inc. is a diversified energy company focused on natural gas, natural gas liquids and oil. It is headquartered in Houston, Texas, United States.

       The company has operations in the Permian Basin (one of the oldest oil and gas producing basins in the United States), Marcellus Shale, and the Anadarko Basin.

    HISTORY


       Coterra Energy was formed through the merger of Cabot Oil & Gas and Cimarex Energy.

    Cabot Oil & Gas

       Cabot Oil & Gas Corporation was established in 1989, and was a subsidiary of Cabot Corporation.

       In 1991, Cabot Oil & Gas became a public company via an IPO.

       In 1994, the company acquired Washington Energy Resources.

       In 2001, Cabot Oil & Gas acquired Cody Energy.

       In 2013, the company sold its assets in the Marmaton play of Oklahoma and West Texas for $160 million.

       In 2018 Cabot Oil & Gas sold its assets in the Eagle Ford Group to KKR and Venado Oil & Gas.

    Cimarex Energy

       Cimarex was founded in 2002, and was a corporate spin-off of Helmerich & Payne, which sought to separate its exploration and production business from its drilling business.

       In 2005, Cimarex acquired Magnum Hunter Resources.

       In March 2019, Cimarex acquired Resolute Energy.


       With more than 900 employees, Coterra Energy Inc. is considered one of the largest oil and gas companies in the United States. According to Forbes, it is considered one of the Largest Public Companies in the World.
