HISTORY
Westlake was founded in 1986 by T. T. Chao, a pioneer in the global petrochemical industry, with the acquisition of a polyethylene plant in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
In 2004, the company was listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).
In 2013, the company entered the specialty pipe business.
In 2014, Westlake acquired the German polyvinyl chloride manufacturer Vinnolit.
In 2016, the company acquired U.S. chlor-alkali producer Axiall Corporation.
In 2021, Westlake acquired LASCO Fittings, Acquired Dimex LLC, and Boral Limited’s North American building products businesses.

The Westlake Performance & Essential Materials segment includes the polyethylene and vinyl chemicals production, which are used to the manufacturing of polymers to protect food, medical and personal products, and an extensive range of sectors and spaces, such as automotive interiors and exteriors, building materials, PVC pipes for agriculture, water systems and buildings, detergents, pharmaceuticals, and many more vital applications.
Westlake Housing & Infrastructure Products
The Westlake Housing & Infrastructure Products segment produces finished goods and key materials in several sectors, including building products, pipe & fittings and custom compounds. In addition, the company’s building products businesses makes items such as residential siding, architectural stone, cement, clay, metal and polymer composite roofing, trim and moulding, pipe and fittings, and more.
As one of the largest PVC pipe manufacturers in North America, Westlake Pipe & Fittings offers an extensive range of PVC pipes & fittings used in different applications, such as municipal water and sewer, residential plumbing, water wells, mining, and agricultural and turf irrigation. Westlake Dimex uses post-industrial recycled polymers in the manufacture of compounds to make garden edging, home and office floor mats, and marine-dock edging.
With more than 16,000 employees and operations worldwide, Westlake Chemical Corporation is considered one of the largest PVC pipe producers in the United States. According to Forbes, it is considered one of the Largest Public Companies in the World.
