Riordan, in June 1987, and the primary therapeutic focus of the company was in antiviral medicines, a field of interest for Riordan after he contracted dengue fever.
Oligogen changed its name to Gilead Sciences, after the reputed healing properties of the ancient Balm of Gilead.
