       Grasim Industries Limited, a flagship company of the global conglomerate Aditya Birla Group, is a manufacturing company headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India.

    HISTORY


       Grasim Industries started as a textiles manufacturer in India in 1947.

       In 1949, Jaya Shree Textiles was established.

       In 1985, the cement business Vikram Cement was established.

       In 1995, Vikram Woollens was established.

       In 1998, Grasim acquired AV Cell Pulp Mill, in a joint venture with other Group Companies and Tembec Inc.

       In 2001, Grasim spun off the consultancy and software services into a separate entity, Birla Technologies Limited.

       In 2002, Grasim divested/sold the Gwalior textiles unit. The textile operations were consolidated at Bhiwani to manufacture ‘Grasim’ and ‘Graviera’ brands.

       In 2005, Grasim acquired AV Nackawic Pulp Mill, in a joint venture with other Group Companies and Tembec Inc.

       In 2006, the joint venture company Birla Jingwei Fibres Company Limited was established.

       In 2011, Grasim acquired a key stake in Domsjo Fabriker AB, Sweden.

       In 2012, Grasim acquired AV Terrace Bay Inc. in JV with Thai Rayon in a joint venture with other Group Companies.

       In 2015, Grasim merged with Aditya Birla Chemicals India Ltd. (ABCIL).

       In 2017, Grasim merged with Aditya Birla Nuvo Limited and Aditya Birla Group Company.

       Subsequently, the Financial Services business was demerged from the merged entity and was listed on bourses as Aditya Birla Capital Limited in 2017.

       In 2018, Grasim acquired the rights to operate and manage the Century Rayon division of Century Textiles and Industries Limited (CTIL).

       In 2019, Grasim Industries signed an agreement to acquire 100% equity shareholding of Soktas India Private Limited.

    OPERATIONS


       Grasim operates through the following business segments: Viscose Staple Fibre, Viscose Filament Yarn, Chemicals, Textiles, and Insulators. Through its subsidiaries, UltraTech Cement and Aditya Birla Capital, Grasim is also a cement producer and a diversified financial services company (NBFC, Asset Management and Life Insurance).

    Viscose Staple Fibre

       The viscose staple fibre (VSF) is a man-made, bio-degradable fibre that is fast emerging as a sustainable alternative to cotton. VSF is used in apparel, home textiles, dress materials, knitwears, and non-woven applications.

    Viscose Filament Yarn

       Grasim is considered one of the world’s largest viscose filament yarn (VFY) manufacturers. The viscose filament yarn (VFY) is a popular choice for manufacturing fabrics such as georgettes, crepes, chiffons, and many more.

    Chemicals

       Grasim is considered one of India’s largest caustic soda producers and one of the largest in the chlor-alkali segment.

    Textiles

       Jaya Shree Textiles is one of India’s leading linen and wool manufacturers.

    Insulators

       Aditya Birla Insulators is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of electrical insulators. It produces a wide range of insulators, including insulators for transmission lines & substations, as well as equipment & railways.

    UltraTech Cement

       UltraTech Cement is considered one of the largest manufacturers of grey cement, Ready Mix Concrete (RMC) and white cement in India. It is also one of the world’s largest cement producers.

    Aditya Birla Capital

       Aditya Birla Capital Limited (ABCL) is the holding company for the financial services businesses of the Aditya Birla Group. It is considered one of the largest diversified financial services companies in India.
