HISTORY
Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings was established in 2016 through the integration of the former Mitsubishi Chemical, Mitsubishi Plastics, and Mitsubishi Rayon.

The predecessor of Mitsubishi Chemical Industries Limited, Nippon-Tar Industries, was founded in 1934.
In 1950, Mitsubishi Chemical Industries Limited (the predecessor of Mitsubishi Kasei Corporation) was listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
In 1956, Mitsubishi Group and Shell Group jointly established Mitsubishi Petrochemical Co., Ltd.
In 1988, Mitsubishi Chemical Industries Limited changed its name to Mitsubishi Kasei Corporation.
In 1994, Mitsubishi Kasei Corporation and Mitsubishi Petrochemical Co., Ltd. merged and started the operation as Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation.

In 2001, Mitsubishi-Tokyo Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and Welfide Corporation merged to form Mitsubishi Pharma Corporation, a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation.
In 2003, Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation was established as an independent company.
In 2005, Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation and Mitsubishi Pharma Corporation jointly established a holding company, Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings Corporation.
Mitsubishi Plastics
Mitsubishi Plastics, Inc. was established by the merger of the former Mitsubishi Plastics with Mitsubishi Chemical MKV, Mitsubishi Polyester Film, and Mitsubishi Chemical Functional Products.
The former Mitsubishi Plastics was founded in 1946 as Nagahama Rubber Industries.
Mitsubishi Chemical MKV was founded in 1952 as Monsanto Kasei Kogyo.
Mitsubishi Polyester Film traces its roots back to 1975 when Mitsubishi Polyester Film transferred its polyester film business to Diafoil. Diafoil was renamed Mitsubishi Polyester Film in 1998.
Mitsubishi Chemical Functional Products was founded in 1976 as Ryowa.
In 2009, Mitsubishi Plastics, Inc. entered into a strategic alliance with the founding group of Quadrant AG, the world’s largest manufacturer of engineering plastic products.

Mitsubishi Rayon’s origins date back to the founding of Shinko Jinken Co., Ltd. in 1933.
In 1942, Shinko Jinken Co., Ltd. was absorbed by Nippon Chemical Industries Co., Ltd.
In 1944, Nippon Chemical Industries Co., Ltd. merged with Asahi Glass Co., Ltd. and was renamed Mitsubishi Chemical Industries Co., Ltd.
In 1950, Shinko Rayon Co., Ltd. was established as a result of the breakup of Mitsubishi Chemical Industries Co., Ltd., which was split up into Nippon Chemical Industries Co., Ltd., Asahi Glass Co., Ltd. and Shinko Rayon Co., Ltd.
In 1952, Shinko Rayon Co., Ltd. was renamed Mitsubishi Rayon Co., Ltd.
In 1998, Mitsubishi Rayon took over Nitto Chemical Industry Co., Ltd., and transferred its operations to Yokohama Production Center, Hachinohe Factory and Yokohama Corporate Research Laboratories.
