   Spectra Energy Corp. was an energy company, providing natural gas and related energy trading services. It is headquartered in Houston, Texas, United States.

   Spectra Energy operated in three areas of the natural gas industry: transmission and storage, distribution, and gathering and processing.

HISTORY


   In 2002, Duke Energy acquired the Canadian corporation Westcoast Energy.

   In 2006, Spectra was established as a spin-off from Duke Energy, and was listed on the New York Stock Exchange.

   In 2007, Duke Energy completed the spin-off of its natural gas business, including Westcoast Energy and Union Gas, to form Spectra Energy.

   In 2017, Enbridge Inc. and Spectra Energy Corp. closed their merger transaction.


   With more than 5.000 employees, Spectra Energy Corporation was considered one of the largest liquids and natural gas franchises in North America. According to Forbes, it was considered one of the Largest Public Companies in the World.
