Tenaris S.A. is a global manufacturing company of pipes and related services headquartered in Luxembourg City, Luxembourg. It provides various systems integrated into steelmaking, pipe rolling and forming, heat treatment, threading, and finishing.
HISTORY
Tenaris was founded in 1909 when seamless pipe manufacturing began in Italy at the Dalmine mill.
In 1912, Nippon Kokan Kabushiki-gaisha (NKK) began manufacturing seamless steel tubes in Japan.
In 1954, Tamsa started up seamless pipe operations in Mexico and Siderca started operations in Argentina.
In 1986, Siderca acquired Siat, an Argentine welded pipe manufacturer, established in 1948.
In 1993, Siderca acquired a controlling interest in Tamsa and formed a strategic alliance.
In 1996, Siderca acquired Dalmine.
In 1999, the company grew in Venezuela and Brazil by acquiring a Confab in Brazil and Tavsa in Venezuela. Confab was a Brazilian manufacturer of industrial equipment which began to produce welded steel pipes for national oil and gas infrastructure in 1960.
In 2000, Siderca and NKK Corporation formed NKKTubes to take over NKK’s seamless tube manufacturing business in Tokyo, Japan. At the same time, Siderca began operating AlgomaTubes in Canada.
In 2001, the Tenaris brand was born.
In 2002, Tenaris S.A. was formed following an exchange offer for shares of Siderca, Tamsa and Dalmine. It was incorporated in Luxembourg and was listed on the New York, Milan, Buenos Aires, and Mexican stock exchanges.
In 2004, the company acquired Silcotub, a Romanian manufacturer of seamless steel pipes.
In 2006, Tenaris acquired Maverick Tube Corp., growing its presence in the U.S. At the same time, it also expanded its presence in Canada with Prudential and in Colombia through TuboCaribe.
In 2007, Tenaris acquired Hydril, expanding its offer of connections for the oil and gas industry.
In 2009, Tenaris acquired heat treatment and threading capabilities in Asia Pacific through the integration of SPIJ in Indonesia.
In 2010, a new threading facility was opened in Dammam, Saudi Arabia.
In 2019, Tenaris acquired Saudi Steel Pipe, a local welded pipe producer.
In 2020, the company acquires IPSCO Tubulars.
With over 19,000 employees in more than 23 countries, Tenaris is considered one of the largest manufacturers of pipes and related services for the world’s energy industry and certain other industrial applications. According to Forbes, it is considered one of the Largest Public Companies in the World.
