VF Corporation (formerly Vanity Fair Mills) is a global apparel and footwear company, headquartered in Denver, Colorado, United States. It provides its customers a diverse portfolio of outdoor and activity-based lifestyle and workwear brands.
HISTORY
VF Corporation (VFC) was established in Pennsylvania in 1899, by John Barbey and a group of investors, as the Reading Glove and Mitten Manufacturing Company.
In 1922, the company was renamed Vanity Fair Silk Mills, Inc. expanding into silk lingerie.
In 1940, the name was changed to Vanity Fair Mills, Inc.
In 1951, Vanity Fair Mills was listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).
In 1969, Vanity Fair Mills entered the denim industry with the acquisition of the H.D. Lee Company (now the Lee), and the whole company was renamed VF Corporation.
In 2000, The North Face and Vans were acquired.
In 2007, VF divested its namesake brand, Vanity Fair, after selling the intimate apparel business.
In 2011, Timberland and Smartwool were acquired.
In 2019, VF spun off its Jeans business into an independent, publicly traded company, named Kontoor Brands, Inc., which includes the Wrangler, Lee and Rock & Republic brands, and the VF Outlet business.
In 2020, the Supreme brand was acquired.
