HISTORY


   It was formed in 2016 as a merger of equals between Willis Group Holdings plc and Towers Watson & Co.

Willis Group Holdings plc

   Willis Group Holdings plc was a London-based multinational risk advisor, insurance brokerage and reinsurance brokerage company. It was founded by Henry Willis as Henry Willis & Co. in London in 1828.

Towers Watson & Co.

   Towers Watson & Co. was an Arlington, VA-based global professional services firm, which helps organizations to improve performance through people, risk and financial management. It was formed on January 4, 2010, by the merger of Towers Perrin and Watson Wyatt Worldwide.

   In 2019, Willis Towers Watson acquired TRANZACT, a direct-to-consumer health care organization that links individuals to U.S. insurance carriers.

   In 2020, the company acquired Unity Group, a regional insurance broker in Central America with operations in six countries.

   In March 2020, Aon announced its planned acquisition of Willis Towers Watson Plc.

   In 2022, Willis Towers Watson rebranded as WTW.
