Historical heritage
In 782 AD, after the proclamation of Tang Dezong, the heavy green wine officially became the official custom wine (junchou).
During the Northern Song Dynasty, Yao Junyu, a great gentleman in Yibin, opened Yao’s Wine Shop.
At the beginning of the Ming Dynasty, the Chen family established the “Wendefeng” wine shop, which combined the essence of Yao Zixuequ brewing, and replaced the original Wuliang formula with corn newly imported from overseas at that time, and finally created a more perfect “Chen’s formula”.
In the late Qing Dynasty, after Deng Zijun inherited the “Wen Defeng” wine shop, he changed its name to “Li Chuan Yong”.
In 1909, Deng Zijun took the wine to a local celebrity banquet. After tasting, Yang Huiquan said: “Such a good wine; it is called mixed grain wine. Ordinarily, Yao Zixue’s name is elegant, but it is not enough to reflect the charm. Since this wine is made from the essence of Wuliangye, why not change its name to Wuliangye?”
In 1952, 8 most famous ancient and old wineries in Yibin, including Lichuanyong, Changfasheng, Quan Hengchang, Tianxifu, Zhang Wanhe, Zhong Sanhe, Tingyuelou, and Liu Dingxing, formed a joint venture, and Deng Zijun offered Produced Chen’s secret recipe and served as technical director. It was later renamed Wuliangye Winery in 1959.
In 1998, Wuliangye Winery was restructured into Wuliangye Group Company and Wuliangye Co., Ltd. That year, the joint-stock company, Wuliangye Yibin Company Limited, was listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange;
Since Wuliangye was awarded the gold prize at the Panama International Exposition in 1915, it has won more than 100 international awards, including โNational Famous Liquorโ, โNational Quality Management Awardโ, and many others.
In 2008, the traditional baijiu-making techniques of Wuliangye were listed as a national intangible cultural heritage.
