Arch Capital Group Ltd. (ACGL) is a provider of insurance, reinsurance and mortgage insurance solutions headquartered in Hamilton, Bermuda. It was initially founded as Risk Capital Holdings, Inc. in 1995.
In 2000, Risk Capital Holdings sold the reinsurance operations of its subsidiary Risk Capital Reinsurance Co. to Folksamerica Reinsurance Co. At the same time, it changed its name to Arch Capital Group Ltd.
In 2016, Arch Mortgage Guaranty acquired United Guaranty, AIG‘s mortgage insurance unit, making Arch the world’s largest mortgage insurer.
In 2021, Arch, along with investment partners Kelso & Co. and Warburg Pincus, acquired Watford Holdings Ltd. Arch also acquired Westpac Lenders Mortgage Insurance Limited, and Arch Reinsurance Ltd. acquired Somerset Bridge Group.
