     Associated British Foods Plc is a diversified international food, ingredients and retail company. The company operates its business through five segments: Sugar, Agriculture, Retail, Grocery, and Ingredients. The Sugar segment is engaged in the growing and processing of sugar beet and sugar cane for sale to industrial users and to Silver Spoon, which is included in the grocery segment. The Agriculture segment is engaged in the manufacturing of animal feeds and the provision of other products for the agriculture sector. The Retail segment is engaged in the buying and merchandising of clothing and accessories through the Primark and Penneys retail chains. The Grocery segment manufactures grocery products, including hot beverages, sugar & sweeteners, vegetable oils, bread & baked goods, cereals, ethnic foods, herbs & spices, and meat products, which are sold to retail, wholesale, and food service businesses. The Ingredients segment manufactures baker’s yeast, bakery ingredients, specialty proteins, enzymes, lipids, and yeast extracts. Associated British Foods was founded in November 1935 is headquartered in London, the United Kingdom.

    HISTORY


    From its inception in November 1935 as Food Investments Limited and its rapid change to Allied Bakeries Limited five weeks later, the business grew dramatically as a broad-based food manufacturing organization, becoming Associated British Foods Limited in February 1960.

    It finally changed to Associated British Foods plc in May 1982 to comply with legal requirements.

    Growth has been predominantly through acquisition and has resulted in a global group operating in 47 countries, employing over 113,000 people.
