     Bank of Greece SA engages in the business of financial and banking services, which is also the central bank of the country. Its main activities include Eurosystem-Related Tasks and Other Tasks of the bank. The Eurosystem-Related Tasks involves monetary policy formulation, foreign exchange and reserve assets’ management, payment and settlement systems, financial stability monitoring, statistical data collection, and banknotes and coins issuance. The Other Tasks of the bank includes supervision of credit institutions and financial sectors, payment and securities settlement system, reserve assets, treasurer and fiscal agent of the government, and research and publications. The company was founded on September 15, 1927, and is headquartered in Athens, Greece.“

    The Bank of Greece (member of the European System of Central Banks (ESCB)) is Greece’s national central bank and was established by Law 3424/7 December 1927. The bank’s shares are registered and have been listed on the Athens Exchange since 12 June 1930.

    It is not state-owned, but an S.A. share company with special privileges, restrictions, and duties. It cannot operate as a commercial bank and the percentage of shares that can be under Greek state ownership cannot exceed 35%. It has a staff of more than 3,000 employees. The primary objective of the Bank is to ensure price stability in Greece. It also supervises the private banks and acts as a treasurer and fiscal agent for the Greek government. After law 3867/2010 was passed, the Bank of Greece is also responsible for supervising private insurance companies, merging in the Committee for the Supervision of Insurance Companies established by law 3229/2004. Its Euro banknotes printer identification code is Y. The Bank also sells Gold sovereigns. The entrance of the Bank of Greece features the Greek and the European Union flags. The current (as of 2008, June) governor is Georgios A. Provopoulos who manages the bank together with the two deputy governors who are currently Eleni Dendrinou-Louri and Ioannis M. Papadakis.”
