    Jefferies Financial Group, Inc. history, profile and corporate video

       Jefferies Financial Group, Inc., formerly known as Leucadia National Corporation, is a diversified financial services company headquartered in New York City, United States. It engaged in investment banking and capital markets, asset management and direct investing.

       The company’s origins date back to 1979 when Ian M. Cumming and Joseph S. Steinberg gained control of Talcott National Corporation.

       In 1980, they renamed the company Leucadia.

       In 1991, Leucadia acquired insurer Colonial Penn from Florida Power & Light.

       In 1997, Leucadia sold the life insurance division of Colonial Penn to Conseco. It also sold the auto insurance division of Colonial Penn to GE Capital.

       In 1998, Leucadia sold Charter National Life Insurance and Intramerica Life Insurance to Allstate.

       In 2003, Leucadia acquired WilTel Communications Group.

       In 2003, Leucadia acquired RehabWorks.

       In 2005, Leucadia sold WilTel Communications Group to Level 3 Communications.

       In 2007, Leucadia acquired ResortQuest International from Gaylord Hotels.

       In 2009, Leucadia entered into a 50/50 joint venture with Berkshire Hathaway called “Berkadia”.

       In 2010, Leucadia sold ResortQuest International to Wyndham Worldwide.

       In 2011, Leucadia acquired a 79% interest in National Beef Packing Company.

       In 2013, Leucadia National Corporation merged with Jefferies Group, a global investment banking company founded by Boyd Jefferies in 1962.

       In 2015, Leucadia made an investment in FXCM.

       In 2018, Leucadia National Corporation was renamed Jefferies Financial Group.

    • Jefferies Group LLC – investment banking, equities, fixed income, asset and wealth management products and services;
    • Berkadia Commercial Mortgage Holding LLC (50/50 joint venture with Berkshire Hathaway) – commercial mortgage banking, investment sales and servicing;
    • HomeFed – a developer and owner of residential and mixed-use real estate properties;
    • FXCM – provider of online foreign exchange trading services;
    • Foursight Capital – vehicle finance;
    • HRG Group – insurance and consumer products;
    • Vitesse Energy (‘‘Vitesse Energy Finance’’) – oil and gas exploration and development;
    • JETX Energy – oil and gas;
    • Linkem – one of the largest fixed wireless broadband service providers in Italy;
    • Golden Queen – a gold and silver mining project;
    • Idaho Timber – manufacturing.

       With more than 4,000 employees, Jefferies Financial Group Inc. is considered one of the Top 2000 Largest Public Companies in the World, according to Forbes.
