Lincoln National Corporation (LNC) history, profile and corporate video

Lincoln National Corporation (LNC) is an American holding company headquartered in Radnor, Pennsylvania, U.S. It was organized under the laws of the state of Indiana in 1968, but it traces its roots to its earliest predecessor, Lincoln National Life Insurance Company, founded on June 12, 1905, in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

The name “Lincoln” was suggested by Perry Randall, a Fort Wayne attorney and entrepreneur, arguing that Abraham Lincoln’s name would powerfully convey a spirit of integrity.

From 1998, the company started using the Lincoln Financial Group as the marketing name for LNC and its subsidiary companies.

LNC operates through the following business segments: Annuities, Life Insurance, Retirement Plan Services, and Group Protection.

    Annuities

The Annuities segment provides tax-deferred investment growth and lifetime income opportunities for its clients by offering fixed and variable annuities.

    Life Insurance

The Life Insurance segment provides life insurance products, including term insurance, both single and survivorship versions of universal life insurance, variable universal life insurance, and indexed universal life insurance products.

    Retirement Plan Services

The Retirement Plan Services segment focuses on employers with retirement plan products and services, primarily in the defined contribution retirement plan marketplaces.

    Group Protection

The Group Protection segment offers group non-medical insurance products, which include term life, disability, dental, vision and accident, and critical illness benefits, as well as services to the employer marketplace through various forms of employee-paid and employer-paid plans.

The main subsidiaries of the company are:

    • Lincoln National Life Insurance Company
    • First Penn-Pacific Life Insurance Company
    • Lincoln Financial Advisors
    • Lincoln Financial Distributors
    • Lincoln Financial Securities
    • Lincoln Life & Annuity Company of New York

With more than 11 000 employees, Lincoln National Corp. is considered one of the top 2000 largest public companies in the world, according to Forbes.
