       Phoenix Group Holdings plc is an insurance services provider headquartered in London, England, the United Kingdom. The group can trace its history back more than 200 years.

    Phoenix Group Holdings Timeline

    1782 – Phoenix Assurance was established.

    1806 – London Life was established.

    1835- National Provident Institution (NPI) was established.

    1864- Pearl Life Assurance Loan and Investment Company Limited was established.

    1866 – British Workman’s Association (renamed Britannic Assurance) was established.

    1984 – Sun Alliance acquired Phoenix Assurance.

    1989 – London Life merged with Australian Mutual Provident Society (AMP).

    1995 – AMP closed London Life to new Business.

    1999 – AMP acquired NPI.

    1999 – Britannic acquired Alba Life (previously named Britannia Life).

    1996 – Royal Insurance and Sun Alliance merged to become Royal & Sun Alliance.

    2003 – AMP closed Life Companies to new business and demerged them as HHG with Henderson Investors.

    2004 – Resolution Life Group Ltd acquired UK Life operations of Royal & Sun Alliance.

    2005 – Britannic Group acquired Century Group.

    2005 – Resolution Life Group Ltd merged with Britannic Group plc and became Resolution PLC.

    2005 – HHG sold Pearl, London Life and NPI to Sun Capital, Partners and TDR Capital: Pearl.

    2006 – Resolution PLC acquired Abbey National plc’s Life businesses.

    2008 – Pearl Group Ltd acquired Resolution PLC and sold open business of Scottish Mutual Assurance Ltd & Scottish Provident Ltd.

    2009 – Liberty Acquisition Holdings (International) acquired Pearl Group Ltd.

    2010 – Pearl Group changed its name to Phoenix Group Holdings.

    2016 – Phoenix Group acquired Abbey Life.

    2016 – Phoenix Group Holdings acquired AXA Wealth’s pensions and protection business including Sun life.

    2018 – Phoenix Group acquired Standard Life Assurance Limited and begins a strategic partnership with Standard Life Aberdeen PLC.

    2020 – Phoenix Group acquired ReAssure.


       Today, the Group has a comprehensive portfolio of pension savings and life insurance brands, including Phoenix life, Standard Life Assurance Limited, ReAssure, Sun life, Phoenix Wealth, or Phoenix Ireland.

       With more than 1 200 employees, Phoenix Group Holdings is considered one of the UK’s largest long-term savings and retirement business. According to Forbes, it is considered one of the top 2000 largest public companies in the world.
