Pizza Hut history, profile (overview) and history video

Pizza Hut is a multinational restaurant chain and international franchise headquartered in Plano, Texas, United States.

With over 16,000 restaurants in more than 100 countries, Pizza Hut is considered one of the largest pizza companies in the world.

    HISTORY

The first Pizza Hut restaurant was opened in 1958 by two brothers, Dan Carney and Frank Carney, who borrowed $600 from their mom to open a pizza place in Wichita, Kansas. They named it Pizza Hut, because their sign only had room for eight letters.

In 1959, the two brothers began franchising.

In 1969, the familiar red roof was adopted for Pizza Hut restaurants.

In 1971, Pizza Hut became the first pizza restaurant chain in the world in both sales and number of restaurants.

In 1977, Pizza Hut was acquired by PepsiCo.

In 1994, Pizza Hut became the first national chain to offer pizza delivery ordering on the internet.

In 1997, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell and Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) were spun off by PepsiCo, and all three restaurant chains became part of a new company named Tricon Global Restaurants, Inc.

In 2001, Pizza Hut became the first company to deliver to space with a pizza delivery to the International Space Station.

In 2002, Tricon Global Restaurants, Inc. was renamed Yum! Brands.

In 2003, Pizza Hut launched WingStreet restaurants.

In 2009, Pizza Hut launched its iPhone ordering app.

In 2013, Pizza Hut introduced an Xbox 360 app, which allows gamers to order Pizza Hut directly from the gaming console.

In 2016, Pizza Hut set a world record by delivering pizza to Mt. Kilimanjaro.

In 2019, Pizza Hut debuted first esports football stadium.
