       Platinum Equity is global investment company headquartered in California, United States. It specializes in private equity and other alternative strategies, investing on behalf of institutional investors around the world.

       The company operates across a wide range of sectors: Finance, Consumer, Health care, Industrials, Media, Natural resources, and Technology.

    HISTORY


       The company was founded in 1995 by Tom Gores as Platinum Equity Holdings. Equity’s first acquisition was LSI, a company that generated computer graphics to re-create accidents for courtroom testimony.

       From 1996 to 2001, the company made 32 acquisitions with $226 million, and realized $940 million on those investments. These acquisitions included a call center (Foresight Software), networking gear (Racal Electronics), and voice and data service (Williams Communications).

       In 2000, the company changed its name to Platinum Equity.

       In 2004, the company acquired General Electric‘s IT Solutions division.

       In 2009, the company acquired 14 companies.

       In 2016, Platinum Equity acquired Emerson‘s Network Power business, rebranding it as Vertiv.

       In 2017, Platinum Equity acquired the Staples business in Australia and New Zealand, relaunching it as Winc (Work Incorporated). It also acquired prison communication firm Securus Technologies.

       In 2018, the company acquired Newell Brands from Jostens.

       In 2021, Platinum Equity acquired Ingram Micro.


       With more than 300 employees and expertise that spans all seven continents, Platinum Equity is considered one of the Largest Public Companies in the World, according to Forbes.
