   SOMPO Holdings, Inc., formerly NKSJ Holdings and Sompo Japan, is a Japanese insurance holdings company headquartered in Tokyo, Japan. It was established in April 2010 as NKSJ Holdings, Inc., and it is the result of a share exchange agreement between Sompo Japan Insurance Inc. and NIPPONKOA Insurance Co., Ltd., an agreement aimed at establishing a joint holding company.

   In 2014, the joint holding company NKSJ Holdings Inc. changed its name to Sompo Japan Nipponkoa Holdings, Inc.

   In 2016, Sompo Japan Nipponkoa Holdings, Inc. changed its name to Sompo Holdings, Inc.


   The company provides a range of businesses centered on the domestic P&C insurance business, overseas insurance, including domestic life insurance, and Nursing care & Healthcare, in addition to strategically conducting business such as the asset management, healthcare, and home remodeling businesses fields.

   The word “Sompo” from the company’s name means “general insurance” in Japanese.

   With more than 49 000 employees, SOMPO Holdings, Inc. has a global business network covering 29 countries, and it is considered one of the largest insurance companies in Japan. According to Forbes, it is considered one of the top 2000 largest public companies in the world.
