Travelport Worldwide Ltd. – history, company profile (overview) and corporate video

Travelport is a worldwide travel retail platform headquartered in Langley, Berkshire, the United Kingdom. It connects travel product suppliers (airlines, hotels, cruise lines, etc.) to resellers (travel agents, travel management companies, tour operators, etc.).

    HISTORY

Travelport’s origins date back to 1971, but its most immediate predecessor, Travel Distribution Services (TDS), was formed by Cendant in 2001 following its acquisitions of Galileo GDS and CheapTickets.

In 2004, Orbitz and Flairview Travel were acquired.

In 2005, the company acquired eBookers and Gullivers Travel Associates.

In 2006, Cendant sold Orbitz, one of the leading global online travel companies, and Galileo to The Blackstone Group, forming Travelport.

In August 2007, Travelport acquired Worldspan.

In October 2007, Orbitz Worldwide became a separate, publicly traded company.

In 2010, the company acquired Sprice.com.

In 2011, the company sold Gullivers Travel Associates (GTA) to Kuoni Travel.

In 2014, Travelport became a public company via an initial public offering (IPO) on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).

In 2015, Mobile Travel Technologies was acquired.

In 2023, the company acquired Deem from Enterprise Holdings.
