   ViacomCBS Inc. is an American diversified multinational mass media conglomerate headquartered in New York City, New York, U.S. It can trace its roots back to 1952 when CBS formed CBS Films, a division that handled syndication rights for CBS’s library of television series.

   In January 1968, CBS Films division was renamed as CBS Enterprises.

   In 1970, CBS Enterprises renamed as Viacom.

   In 1971, Viacom was spun off from CBS as a separate company.

   In 1985, Viacom acquired MTV Networks & Showtime/The Movie Channel Inc.

   In 1986, Viacom was acquired by its present owner, theater operator company National Amusements.

   In 1994, Viacom acquired Paramount Communications.

   In 1995, Westinghouse Electric Corporation, an American manufacturing company, merged with the CBS television network and formed CBS Corporation.

   In 1999, Viacom acquired its former parent CBS Corporation.

   In January 2006, Viacom was split into two entities: CBS Corporation, the former’s corporate successor and the spun-off Viacom company.

   In 2019, CBS Corporation and Viacom reunited into one single company known as ViacomCBS.
