    Corning Heritage

Who would have predicted that an 1851 investment in a glass company would help revolutionize the 21st century? Corning’s remarkable innovations over the past 160 years are largely the result of the company’s unwavering commitment to the art of discovery; the highest standards of quality, consistency, and performance excellence; and our Values.

From light bulbs, television tubes and cookware…to ceramic substrates, optical fiber, and active-matrix liquid crystal displays, Corning has developed products that change the way we live — for the better. Corning’s sustained success stems from its ability to constantly reinvent and evolve its products and processes to meet the demands of current and future markets.

While company founder, Amory Houghton, Sr., could not have foreseen the vast array of products Corning eventually would develop and commercialize, he did establish research and development as the company’s foundation.

Dr. Eugene Sullivan continued to strengthen that foundation in the early 20th century by applying the scientific method of discovery to Corning’s industrial R&D environment. This move from “invention to innovation” paved the way for a dynamic research philosophy that Corning has rigorously refined into the highly defined process implemented today.

In keeping with our heritage, today Corning is the world leader in specialty glass and ceramics, and a global leader in industrial research and development, staffed with a world-class team of scientists working in some of the best laboratories in the world. Our exceptional inventive capability continues to be the engine that drives the company’s growth and positions us to continue our legacy of translating science into life-changing products and technologies that benefit the world.

Through our continued commitment to discovery, Corning will continue to make possibilities real for many centuries to come.”
