       Crown Castle International Corp. is an American real estate investment trust and a provider of shared communications infrastructure headquartered in Houston, Texas, United States. It was founded in 1994 in Houston and began with a portfolio of 133 cell towers.

       Since then, Crown Castle has acquired a number of companies. They include Global Signal Inc., a rival US tower operator (2007); NewPath Networks, a leading provider of distributed antenna systems (DAS), a type of small cell solution (2010); NextG Networks (2011); Sunesys (2015); FPL FiberNet from NextEra Energy (2016); the fiber providers Wilcon and Lightower, which were combined under the divisional name “Crown Castle Fiber” (2017).

       In 2014, the company officially becomes a Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT).

       In 2020, Crown Castle joins the Fortune 500 list for the first time.


       The company has been building and operating shared communications infrastructure for many years, and its communications infrastructure network includes towers, small cell networks, fiber lines and data centers, which are all required to provide necessary connectivity to the community.

       With more than 5 000 employees across nearly 100 offices nationwide, Crown Castle International Corp. is considered one of the top 2000 largest public companies in the world, according to Forbes.
