       Global Payments, Inc. is an American multinational financial technology services company headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. It can trace its roots back to 1967 when George W. Thorpe, a retired Deputy Director of Intelligence with the US Air Force, conceived a plan to offer specialized data processing services. That year, National Data Corporation (NDC) was launched in Atlanta.

       By 1977, 50 percent of all banks in the U.S. and Canada used NDC for MasterCharge authorization.

       By 1984, NDC had made multiple acquisitions, launched new services and processed more credit card transactions than any other company in the world.

       In 2000, Global Payments was founded.

       In 2001, Global Payments spun off from National Data Corporation (NDC), its former parent company, and became an independent, publicly-traded company.

       In 2019, the company announced the merger with Total System Services, Inc. (TSYS), a provider of payment processing services, merchant services, and related payment services


       The company provides payment processing services that enable merchants to accept payments in any form, through any channel (Payments in-person with secure POS payments solutions, payments online, mobile point of sale app and card reader, or payments solution integrated into the software with one easy connection). It also provides data management tools, gift card solutions, and business loans.

       With more than 24 000 employees and solutions for over 3.5M businesses and financial institutions globally, Global Payments, Inc. is considered one of the world’s largest companies in delivering payments and integrated software solutions. According to Forbes, the company is considered one of the top 2000 largest public companies in the world.
