       Lam Research Corporation is a global supplier of wafer fabrication equipment and services to the semiconductor industry headquartered in Fremont, California, United States. It was founded in 1980 by Dr. David K. Lam, a Chinese-born engineer who had previously worked at Xerox, Hewlett-Packard, and Texas Instruments.

       David K. Lam started his business while he was working on HP, seeing the need for better plasma etching equipment to keep up with the rapid miniaturization of semiconductor wafers. He also credited Robert Norton Noyce, founder of Intel, for assisting him in getting funding for his business.

       In 2006, Bullen Semiconductor, now Silfex, Inc. was aquired.

       In 2008, SEZ AG, now Lam Research AG was aquired.

       In 2011, the company Established Corus, now Lam Manufacturing Korea.

       In 2012, Novellus Systems was aquired.

       In 2016, it launched Lam Research Capital to invests in other semiconductor-related businesses.

       In 2017, Coventor, Inc. was aquired.


       Lam Research offers a broad portfolio of products and equipment for thin film deposition, plasma etch, photoresist strip, and wafer cleaning, which are complementary processing steps used throughout semiconductor manufacturing.

       The company’s technology and productivity solutions deliver a wide range of wafer processing capabilities needed to create the latest chips and applications – from transistor, interconnect, patterning, advanced memory, and packaging to sensors and transducers, analog and mixed-signal, discrete and power devices, and optoelectronics and photonics.
