    HISTORY

Mediobanca was founded in 1946 at the initiative of Raffaele Mattioli (then Chairman of Banca Commerciale Italiana – BCI) and Enrico Cuccia to support the reconstruction, development and international expansion of Italy’s industry in the wake of World War II.        In 2001, the company launched the private bank Banca Esperia through a joint venture with Mediolanum. Since 2013, it also has a presence in Turkey with Mediobanca Advisory.

In 2008, CheBanca! was formed, the first native online bank operating on a multi-channel distribution model (web, call center and branches) for retail customers. That year, Compass also acquired Linea.

In 2015, Mediobanca acquired control of Cairn Capital with the aim of building an Asset Management platform.

In 2016, Mediobanca acquired Barclays’ retail banking business in Italy through the subsidiary CheBanca!. The full control of Banca Esperia has also been acquired that year.

In 2017, Mediobanca acquired a 69% interest in RAM, one of Europe’s leading systematic investment managers.

In 2019, Mediobanca Group has acquired a 66% stake in Messier & Associés, one of the largest French Corporate Finance houses.
