Nordea Bank Abp history, profile and corporate video

Nordea Bank Abp is a European financial services group headquartered Helsinki, Finland.

Through mergers, 300 banks were reduced to 80 banks in the 1970s and to 30 banks in the 1980s. By the 1990s, there were only four major Nordic banks left: Merita Bank, Unibank, Kreditkassen (Christiania Bank) and Nordbanken. These four banks merge under the brand name of Nordea from 2001.

The name Nordea was created from putting together the words “Nordic” and “ideas”, and comes from the Swedish bank Nordbanken; this developed from PK-banken (Post och Kreditbanken) which in 1990 purchased the smaller private bank Nordbanken, and picked up that name.

The group offers a full range of banking and financial services and solutions for personal customers, small and medium businesses, or corporates and financial institutions through digital or other channels. Its portfolio of financial products and services includes financing, cash management, payment services, investment banking, capital markets products, securities services, savings, pensions, and many others.

With more than 30 000 employees in more than 20 countries around the world, Nordea Bank Abp is considered one of the top 2000 largest public companies in the world, according to Forbes.
