PANTENE history, profile and history video

Pantene is a Swiss-former American brand of hair care products, including shampoos, conditioners, styling products, and hair treatments. It is owned by Procter & Gamble (P&G) and is considered one of the most well-recognized haircare brands in the world.

    HISTORY

Pantene’s history began in 1945 when scientists from the Swiss drug company Hoffman-La Roche discovered the wonders of the ingredient Panthenol. Used for treating burnt skin, it was found that the healing properties of this vitamin also gave incredible benefits to damaged hair.

In 1945, Pantene was originally introduced as a premium hair care line in Europe by Hoffmann-La Roche of Switzerland, which branded the name based on panthenol as a shampoo ingredient.

In the 1960s, Hoffman-La Roche partnered with The Vitamin Pope, Dr. Gustav Erlemann, to develop a formula that could be used in haircare products. Dr. Erlemann created the first Pantene haircare formula, laying the foundation for Pro-V Science.

In the 1960s, American retailers also started importing Pantene from Switzerland.

In 1985, Pantene was acquired by Procter & Gamble (P&G).

In 1986, Pantene launched “Don’t hate me because I’m beautiful” advertising campaign, which became one of the most iconic campaigns in hair care advertising history.

In the early 1990s, Pantene made its way across the globe, launching in Australia, New Zealand, Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, Latin America, Korea, and Japan.

In 2010, Pantene collaborated with NASA, using their modelling technology to uncover new information about the molecular structure of hair. This discovery empowered Pantene to reinvent haircare, improving formulas to ensure every drop of Pantene nourishes hair from inside out.

In 2012, the Pantene Hair Research Alliance was established. The Pantene Hair Research Institute is a partnership of world-class physicians and scientists focused on the advancement of hair science and developing healthy solutions in hair care.
