   PPL Corp. is an energy company headquartered in Allentown, Pennsylvania, U.S. It was originally founded as Pennsylvania Power & Light on June 4, 1920, following a merger of eight utility companies.

   In 1995, it reorganized as a holding company, PP&L Resources, which changed its name to the current PPL Corporation in 2000.

PPL is the parent company to seven regulated utility companies and delivers through its utility subsidiaries electricity to customers in the U.K., Pennsylvania, Kentucky, and Virginia. It is also the parent company to Safari Energy, LLC, a provider of solar power solutions for commercial customers in the U.S.

   The company operates mainly through Louisville Gas & Electric and Kentucky Utilities, PPL Electric Utilities, and Western Power Distribution.

Louisville Gas & Electric and Kentucky Utilities

   Louisville Gas and Electric Company (LG&E) and Kentucky Utilities Company (KU) are regulated utilities engaged in the generation, transmission, distribution and sale of electricity in Kentucky and Virginia. n addition, LG&E is engaged in the distribution and sale of natural gas.

PPL Electric Utilities

   PPL Electric Utilities provides electricity distribution and transmission services to customers in central and eastern Pennsylvania.

Western Power Distribution

   Western Power Distribution (WPD) is the electricity distribution network operator in the United Kingdom for the East and West Midlands, South West England, and South Wales.

   With over 12 000 employees and more than 10 million utility customers in the U.S. and U.K., PPL Corporation is a Fortune 500 company and one of the largest utility companies in the U.S. According to Forbes, it is considered one of the top 2000 largest public companies in the world.
