TelevisaUnivision, Inc. (formerly Univision Communications) is a Mexican-American content and media company with headquarters in Mexico City, Mexico, and New York City, New York, United States. It owns the American-Spanish language broadcast network Univision.
HISTORY
TelevisaUnivision was established in 1962 ) by Rene Anselmo, as Spanish International Communications Corporation (parent of Spanish International Network -SIN).
In 1987, a part of the company was sold the company to Hallmark Cards, and the name was changed to Univision Holdings Inc.
In 1992, Hallmark Cards (which owned a 63.5% interest), First Chicago Venture Capital (which acquired 21.5%) and several other private investors (which collectively owned the remaining 15% held in a trust) acquired the SIN stations for $600 million, while forming a new relationship with Televisa for the distribution of programs. The new group adopted a new name for the network, Univision Communications Inc.
In 1996, the company was listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and delisted in 2007.
In 2001, Univision acquired USA Broadcasting.
In 2007, Univision Communications was acquired by Broadcasting Media Partners Inc.
In 2016, Gawker Media was acquired.
In 2021, Univision merged with a part of Televisa and created TelevisaUnivision.
