Paramount Global (formerly ViacomCBS Inc.) history, profile and corporate video

Paramount Global (formerly ViacomCBS Inc.) is an American diversified multinational mass media conglomerate headquartered in New York City, New York, U.S. It can trace its roots back to 1952 when CBS formed CBS Films, a division that handled syndication rights for CBS’s library of television series.

In January 1968, the CBS Films division was renamed CBS Enterprises.

In 1970, CBS Enterprises was renamed Viacom.

In 1971, Viacom was spun off from CBS as a separate company.

In 1985, Viacom acquired MTV Networks & Showtime/The Movie Channel Inc.

In 1986, Viacom was acquired by its present owner, theater operator company National Amusements.

In 1994, Viacom acquired Paramount Communications.

In 1995, Westinghouse Electric Corporation, an American manufacturing company, merged with the CBS television network and formed CBS Corporation.

In 1999, Viacom acquired its former parent CBS Corporation.

In January 2006, Viacom was split into two entities: CBS Corporation, the former’s corporate successor and the spun-off Viacom company.

In 2019, CBS Corporation and Viacom reunited into one single company known as ViacomCBS.

In 2022, ViacomCBS changed its name to Paramount Global.

The company comprises a comprehensive list of global brands, including BETBET, CBS All Acces, CBS Entertainment, cbs interactive, cbs news, cbs sports, cbs studios, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, Paramount Network, Paramount, Paramount Television Studios, Pluto TVP, showtime, Awesomeness, Bellator, CBS Sports Network, CBS Television Distribution, CBSN, 55, CMT, Colors, Network 10, pop tv, Simon and Schuster, Smithsonian Channel, Telefe, The CW, Tvland, VH1, ViacomCBS Global Distribution Group, and Vidcon.

With more than 23 000 employees and billions of subscribers across more than 180 countries, Paramount Global is considered one of the top 2000 largest public companies in the world, according to Forbes.
