       W. R. Berkley Corporation is an insurance holding company headquartered in Greenwich, Connecticut, United States. It operates worldwide in two segments of the property casualty insurance business: Insurance and Reinsurance.

       The company operates commercial insurance businesses in the United States, the United Kingdom, Continental Europe, South America, Canada, Mexico, Scandinavia, Asia and Australia and reinsurance businesses in the United States, United Kingdom, Continental Europe, Australia, the Asia-Pacific region and South Africa.


       W. R. Berkley Corporation was founded in 1967 by William R. Berkley.

       In 1973, the company became a public company via an Initial Public Offering (IPO).

       In 1994, the company acquired Key Risk Management Services Inc.

       In 1995, the company acquired the remaining 40% interest in Signet Star from Gen Re. It also acquired MECC.

       In 2006, the company acquired Garnet Captive Services LLC, an insurance brokerage and alternative risk consulting firm.

       With more than 7,400 employees, W. R. Berkley Corporation is considered one of the largest commercial line writers in the United States. According to Forbes, it is considered one of the Largest Public Companies in the World.
