       Aberdeen Asset Management Plc is a global investment management company headquartered in Aberdeen, Scotland, the United Kingdom. It offers clients access to emerging market equities and fixed income, multi-asset, real estate, and alternatives solutions. 

    HISTORY


       Aberdeen Asset Management began in 1983 when a group of investors, including Martin Gilbert, bought out a £50 million investment trust in Aberdeen.

       In 1991, the company was listed on the London Stock Exchange under the name Aberdeen Trust PLC.

       In 1997, Aberdeen Trust PLC changed its name to Aberdeen Asset Management.

       In 1997, the company also acquired Prolific Financial Management from Scottish Provident, becoming one of the UK’s top-10 unit trust managers.

       In 2000, Aberdeen branched out into direct property, forming Aberdeen Property Investors through the acquisition of Barclays Property Investment (UK) and Celexa. That year, it also purchased Murray Johnstone (UK), an international equities and bonds manager, and Equitilink, an Australian manager of domestic assets and US closed-end funds.

       In 2003, the company acquired Edinburgh Fund Managers.

       In 2005, Aberdeen acquired the UK and US institutional businesses of Deutsche Asset Management.

       In 2007, the company also moved into the Australian market with additional purchases from Deutsche Asset Management, and increased its US Assets with fund management businesses from Nationwide Financial Services.

       In 2008, Aberdeen acquired Goodman Property Investors, and announced our business alliance with Mitsubishi UFJ Trust and Banking Corporations, Japan.

       In 2009, the asset management company Credit Suisse was acquired.

       In 2010, the company acquired assets and contracts from RBS Asset Management and RBS Asset Management Holdings.

       In 2013, the group acquired a 50.1% stake in SVG Advisers and also acquired Artio Global Investors Inc in the U.S.

       In 2014, Aberdeen completed the acquisition of Scottish Widows Investment Partnership (SWIP) from Lloyds Banking Group.

       In 2017, Aberdeen Asset Management PLC and Standard Life merged to form Standard Life Aberdeen plc (now abrdn plc).


       With more than 2,8000 employees, Aberdeen Asset Management Plc is considered one of the largest active managers in Europe.
