Biotechnology Market Deal Activity In 2026
Mergers and acquisitions ran ahead of venture capital in the first half of 2026. J.P. Morgan recorded $96 billion across 80 biopharma deals, including $55.1 billion from 48 deals in the second quarter.
Upfront cash made up 6% of total announced licensing value in H1 2026, so most of the headline $166.7 billion sits in milestones rather than cash at signing.
How Many New Drugs Did The FDA Approve?
The FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research approved 46 novel drugs in 2025, down from 50 in 2024. The 2025 cohort split into 34 new molecular entities and 12 biologics.
