Danske Bank A/S is a Danish bank headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark. It was founded in 1871 as Den Danske Landmandsbank (Landmandsbanken).
In 1873, Handelsbanken was founded and later became the neighbor of Landmandsbanken at Kongens Nytorv in Copenhagen. The two banks merged in 1990.
Landmandsbanken changed its name to Den Danske Bank in 1976. In 2000, it adopted the name of Danske Bank.
In 2006, the company acquired the banking business of Sampo.
The bank operates through the following areas: Banking DK, Banking Nordic, Corporates & Institutions, and Wealth Management.
The Banking DK segment provides advisory services to personal and private banking customers as well as small and medium-sized businesses in Denmark. It offers daily banking, home financing, investment, retirement planning solutions, and many more.
The Banking Nordic segment provides advisory services to personal, private banking and business customers in Finland, Norway and Sweden.
Corporates & Institutions
The Corporates & Institutions segment offers expertise in funding, risk management, investment services, corporate finance advisory services, and comprehensive, award-winning transaction banking solutions.
The Wealth Management segment offers a broad range of products and services within wealth and asset management, investments, pension savings, and insurance.
With more than 22 000 employees, Danske Bank A/S is considered one of the largest banks in Denmark and a major retail bank in the northern European region. According to Forbes, it is considered one of the top 2000 largest public companies in the world.
