Prudential Plc. is a British multinational financial services company headquartered in London, the United Kingdom. It was founded in May 1848 as The Prudential, Investment, Loan, and Assurance Association, and began its business with the providing of loans to professional and working people.
The company owns Prudential Corporation Asia and Jackson National Life Insurance Company.
Prudential Corporation Asia, based in Hong Kong, was formed in 1994, to develop and lead the insurance and asset management operations across Asia. In this continent, Prudential has a continuous presence since 1923 when it began its first overseas life operation in Calcutta, India, and sold the first policy to a tea planter in Assam.
Jackson National Life Insurance Company, based in Michigan, United States, was founded in 1961 and was named after Andrew Jackson, the seventh President of the United States of America. It was purchased in 1986 and nowadays represents one of the largest life insurance providers in the United States.
Prudential has also a long history in Africa since 1931 when it established its first branch office in Nairobi, Kenya.
The company provides products and services such as financial advisory services, Pensions and retirement products, investment products, funds, and car or home insurance.
With more than 20 000 employees, Prudential Plc. is considered one of the top 2000 largest public companies in the world, according to Forbes.
