       Woori Financial Group, Inc. is a South Korean banking and financial services holdings company headquartered in Seoul, South Korea. It has a short history as a financial institution, being formed in 2001 through the forced merger of 4 predecessor commercial banks and an investment bank (Hanvit, Peace, Kwangju and Kyongnam Banks and Hanaro Investment Banking and their subsidiaries).

       The banks were taken over and recapitalized by the government because they had fallen below the Basel I Accord mandated eight percent capital adequacy ratio. The South Korean Government, through the Korean Deposit Insurance Corporation, remains the primary investor as a result.


       The company provides its financial services through the following businesses: Woori Bank, Woori Investment & Securities, and Woori Finance Research Institute.

       Woori Bank is one of the four largest domestic banks in South Korea, with a strong presence not only for commercial banking but also for corporate finance.

       NH Investment & Securities is one of the largest securities companies in Korea, offering a wide range of financial services, encompassing wealth management, investment banking, brokerage and merchant banking through 121 domestic branches and overseas subsidiaries.


       With over 150 employees, Woori Financial Group, Inc. is considered one of the largest banks in South Korea. According to Forbes, it is considered one of the top 2000 largest public companies in the world.
