Assicurazioni Generali S.p.A. history, company profile (overview) and history video

Assicurazioni Generali S.p.A. (Generali Group) is a global insurance and asset management company headquartered in Trieste, Italy. It provides life insurance, property and casualty insurance, insurance for companies, asset management, and other financial services.

Generali was founded in 1831 when Giuseppe Lazzano Morpurgo brought together a group of Trieste financiers and merchants to found the Assicurazioni Generali Austro-Italiche.

In 1848, the company removed the adjective ”Austro-Italiche” from its name to better reflect its Italian identity and became simply ”Assicurazioni Generali”. It also started preparing the replacement of the imperial eagle on the logo with the Lion of St. Mark as the symbol for its Italian business.

In 1857, the company was listed on the stock exchange in the city of its birth – the Trieste Stock Exchange.

In 1971, the company dropped the word ”Assicurazioni” from the logo, and the winged lion got a facelift that led to the current logo. From now on, the company will be known to the world simply as ”Generali”.

The main subsidiaries of the group include Genertellife, Alleanza Assicurazioni, Generali Italia, Assicurazioni Generali, Banca Generali, Ina Assitalia, Europ Assistance Group, Future Generali India Life Insurance Company Limited, Generali Osiguranje, and others.

With over 72,000 employees and operations in more than 50 countries worldwide, Assicurazioni Generali S.p.A. is considered one of the largest global insurance and asset management providers. According to Forbes, it is considered one of the Top Regarded Companies and one of the Largest Public Companies in the World.
