       Essity AB is a global hygiene and health company headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden. It was formerly a part of the hygiene and forest products company Svenska Cellulosa AB (SCA) until 2017 when the company spun off the hygiene operations that became listed as a separate company.

       Svenska Cellulosa AB (SCA) was founded in Sweden 1929 as a forestry company.

       The company’s expertise in hygiene begins with the acquisition of the Swedish company Mölnlycke in 1975. Through Mölnlycke, its roots stretch as far back as to 1849.

       In 1995, SCA acquired the German paper and packaging company PWA.

       In 2001, SCA acquired the division Wisconsin Tissue of the United States company Georgia-Pacific Tissue.

       In 2004, the tissue and hygiene products businesses of Carter Holt Harvey were acquired from International Paper.

       In 2007, the Procter & Gamble’s European tissue business was acquired.

       In 2011, SCA acquired the Brazilian Pro Descart, with local brands “Biofral” and “Drybaby”.

       In July 2012, SCA acquired the Georgia Pacific’s tissue operations, including the brand Lotus.

       In 2015, SCA became the largest producer of tissue paper in the world.

       In August 2015, it was announced that SCA’s hygiene operations and forestry operations will be divided into two different divisions.

       In 2017, SCA split off Essity as a separate company listed at the Stock Exchange in Stockholm on June 15, 2017.

       In 2017, Essity acquired BSN medical, a leading medical solutions company that develops products within wound care, compression therapy, and orthopedics.

       The name Essity stems from the words “essentials” and “necessities”.


       The company operates through the following business segments: Personal Care, Consumer Tissue, and Professional Hygiene.

    Personal Care

       The Personal Care segment involves Incontinence Products, Baby Care, Feminine Care, and Medical Solutions. In the market for incontinence products, Essity is the global market leader and the Group holds strong market positions in baby care, feminine care, and medical solutions.

    Consumer Tissue

       The Consumer Tissue segment provides toilet paper, household towels, handkerchiefs, facial tissues, wet wipes, and napkins. It is considered one of the world’s largest suppliers of consumer tissue.

    Professional Hygiene

       The Professional Hygiene segment focuses on complete hygiene solutions, including toilet paper, paper hand towels, napkins, hand soap, hand lotion, hand sanitizers, dispensers, cleaning and wiping products, face masks, and service and maintenance. It is considered one of the world’s largest suppliers of products and services in the market for professional hygiene.
