       Deutsche Wohnen SE is a German property company headquartered in Berlin, Germany.

       Deutsche Wohnen’s roots go back to 1924 when GEHAG (Gemeinnützige Heimstätten-, Spar- und Bau-Aktiengesellschaft), a property company with one of the richest traditions in Germany, was established.

       In 1998, Deutsche Wohnen AG was founded as a subsidiary of Deutsche Bank in Frankfurt am Main and pooled the bank’s residential property portfolio.

       In 1999, Deutsche Wohnen AG was listed on the stock exchange.

       In 2007, GEHAG merged with Deutsche Wohnen AG.

       In 2012, Deutsche Wohnen purchased the BauBeCon portfolio, with around 24,000 residential units.

       In 2013, Deutsche Wohnen AG took over GSW Immobilien AG, with about 60,000 residential units. GSW Immobilien AG was founded as the municipal “Wohnungsfürsorgegesellschaft Berlin mbH” in 1924.

       In 2016, Vonovia SE launched a takeover bid to the shareholders of Deutsche Wohnen AG, but this bid eventually failed.

       Since 2017, Deutsche Wohnen AG became a European company, and changed its name to Deutsche Wohnen SE.

       In 2018, the company took over GETEC media GmbH (now SYNVIA media GmbH), a company specializing in ultra-modern telecommunications services and developing smart building system solutions

       In 2019, PFLEGEN & WOHNEN HAMBURG GMBH was aquired.

       In 2020, the company aquired the ISARIA München Projektentwicklungs GmbH.


       Deutsche Wohnen operates through the followings business segments: Residential Property Management, Sales, Nursing and Assisted Living, and New Construction.

    Residential Property Management

       The Residential Property Management segment involves a residential and commercial property portfolio that spans 158,000 units, including 155,000 residential units and 3,000 commercial units.

    Sales

       The Sales business segment pools both strategic and operational sales activities.

    Nursing and Assisted Living

       The Nursing and Assisted Living segment comprises 77 nursing properties, making Deutsche Wohnen one of the largest owners of nursing properties in Germany.

    New Construction

       The New Construction segment implies the creation of new housing, especially in growth regions and attractive metropolitan areas.

       Beyond these business areas of activity, the company also enters into strategic investments and offers property-related services via subsidiaries.


       With more than 1,400 employees, Deutsche Wohnen SE is considered one of Europe’s biggest property companies. According to Forbes, it is considered one of the Top 2000 Largest Public Companies in the World.
