    MediaTek, Inc. history, profile and corporate video

       MediaTek, Inc. is a Taiwanese fabless semiconductor company headquartered in Hsinchu, Taiwan. It was originally a unit of the Taiwanese firm, United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC), engaged in designing chipsets for home entertainment products. On May 28, 1997, the unit was spun off and incorporated.

       In 2005, MediaTek acquired Inprocomm, a wireless semiconductor design company.

       In 2008, the company acquired Analog Devices cellular radio and baseband chipset divisions.

       In 2011, it acquired Ralink Technology Corporation, gaining products and expertise for Wi-Fi technology for mobile and non-mobile applications, as well as for wired DSL and Ethernet connectivity.

       In 2012, it acquired Coresonic, a global producer of digital signal processing products based in Linköping, Sweden.

       In 2014, MediaTek acquired the Taiwanese chipset designer MStar Semiconductor, Inc.

       In 2016, it completed the acquisition of Richtek Technology Corp., a fabless vendor of analog ICs and power management ICs.

       In 2019, MediaTek and Intel announced a partnership to bring 5G to PCs in 2021.


       The company operates through the following core business segments: Mobile, Home, and Automotive.

       The Mobile segment provides chipsets that offer a combination of connectivity, multimedia, AI, and imaging innovations for premium and flagship smartphones.

    Home

       The Home segment involves Home Entertainment products, including Digital and Smart TV, optical and Blu-ray players, routers, and the newest Voice Assistant Devices (VAD). It also excels in the personal IoT space with a series of wearable chipsets, including the latest Biosensor module and technologies like Narrow Band Internet of Things (NB-IoT).

    Automotive

       The Automotive provides automotive solutions and automated driving products that use cutting-edge technologies like mmWave, machine learning, and advanced visual processing solutions (V-ADAS). It implies technologies like sensors, near- and long-range connectivity solutions, and multiple, powerful applications processors.


       With more than 17 000 employees, MediaTek, Inc. is considered one of the world’s largest global fabless semiconductor companies. According to Forbes, it is considered one of the top 2000 largest public companies in the world.
